200512月,你當時在做甚麼?廿多齣短,講述05年灣仔,似乎發生過驚天動地的大事,轉瞬又塵埃落幕。當時發生了什麼?

各地的行動者,有種植大米、小米、粟米各種農民、工人,甚麼驅使他們不遠千里來到香港這個「資本主義自由經濟的楷模」?婦女、青年、父母、還有小孩子,各自懷著甚麼原因和心情參與這場運動?主流傳媒大肆報導南韓農民推倒鐵馬,現場是否只是鏡頭所及?民間媒體又是什麼?我們日常在接收甚麼資訊?這些資訊與生活有何關連?這又與國際貿易有甚麼關係?

「反世貿」,究竟是在反對甚麼?

參與過這場抗爭的行動者,帶著三步一跪的尊嚴,胡椒噴霧的灼痛,摧淚彈的窒息,新發現跨境友誼,回到我城的核心,與在地草根同行,抗爭八年。要在2013年的今天,再一次回顧這段抗爭歷史,呼喚社會關注,因為資本全球化的侵犯,步步進迫,已再次壓到我們的家門前。本年的12月,世貿部長級會議,將再一次在亞洲區舉行,我們又將如何回應呢?
what were you doing during december 2005?  something spectacular seems
to have happened then.  but before the dust was settled, the curtain was
drawn.  what actually happened?   twenty-some videos recording wanchai
in 2005.  activists from around the world, farmers planting rice, millet
or corn and workers, what urged them to travel all the way to this
“prototype of capitalist free market economy”?  women, youths, parents
and children, what were their thoughts and feelings participating in
this struggle?  the mass media overwhelmingly reported on how the korean
farmers torn down the barricades.  through their lens, did we learn of
what happened on the streets?  what then were the civic independent
medias?  what information do we receive?  how do these information
connect to our lives?  and what do all these correspond with
international trade?

“anti-WTO”, what are they against, anyway?

bearing the experience of, the pride of three steps a bow, the scorching
pain of the pepper spray, the suffocation of the teargas, the newfound
friends across borders, the activists who participated in this struggle,
returned to the hearts of our city, trekked along with the local
grassroots, and has been struggling for 8 years.  until now in 2013, we
look back and reflect on these her/histories of struggles, and call on
the attention of the civil society, because the assault of the
globalised capital, is once against pressing towards our doors steps.
in december this year, the Ministerial Meeting of the WTO shall once
again be held in asia.  how then should we respond?

2002年3月,法國Accor Hotel的外判清潔女工發起罷工。當中,大部分工友都是來自非洲的黑人婦女,這是她們的人生中首次參與罷工,爭取合理及固定的工作時數和待遇。

歷經近一年的罷工,工友的部分訴求獲得回應,亦有不少問題尚未解決、更有一些新問題在復工一年後陸續浮現…….

此影片除了外判問題外,還涉獵到族群歧視、罷工組織形態、罷工有否「勝利」、基層婦女角色、和福利制度問題等的不同議題。

香港的外判勞工處境、基層婦女生活,又是如何? 我們可如何能從此影片借鏡?


March 2002, Paris. Cleaners doing subcontracted work in Accor hotels go on strike. Most of the strikers are women with West African origins and are fighting for their rights for the first time in their life.

Shot over a 4 year period, the film outlines different struggles where with few resources but a tenacious will, collectively organized individuals disrupt the law of submissiveness prevailing in the world of work, particularly in subcontracted work.

因著對寶島的美好憧憬,阿芳飄洋過海到台灣工作,豈料那只是過份美麗的想像。從開懷到憂鬱,由健談至抗拒,我們無法了解移工所經歷、所承受、所背負的,到底能對他們造成多大的影響和損傷。信心被推倒、瓦解,以致難以信任他人,總需要時間重建,可幸有同行者一直在旁扶持。

阿芳的故事,在流動的歷史軌跡中,也許只是萬中之一。在傾斜於官商的政治制度及管理系統下,僅淪為一團血肉模糊的「貨物」。「衣錦還鄉」的夢想破滅,多年辛勞,卻只換來一副疲憊的軀體。而這些傷害,該從何說起?

attracted by the prosperity of the “treasure island”, Ah Fong” travelled
across the ocean to work in taiwan.  and found that is just a fantasied
mirage.  from hopefulness to hopelessness, from outgoing to reserved, we
cannot truly understand what the migrant workers had experienced;
suffered and bore, had inflicted how serious an impact and how much hurt
on them.  when one’s confidence is being broken and destroyed, it will
be difficult to trust the others, recovering will need time.
fortunately, there are people who offered a helping hand all along the
way.

in the flowing her-stories of migration, the story of Ah Fong, is just
one among tens of thousands.  in this political and management system
that leans towards the governments and the businesses, she is just a
commodity of a chunk of human flesh without a face.  the dream of
“returning home with success and prosperity” had been shattered. in
exchange of labouring hard for years, is just a distressed body.  and
all these hurts and pains, how did it all got started?

眾聲日益喧嘩,人人劃地為牢,爭言本土;但「內」「外」之別,不是建起一幅高牆,便可定義、阻隔。

以十萬計的外籍家務工飄洋過海,離家盼望「美好生活」,撞上一個同樣不那麼「好景」的家庭,將是怎個模樣?印尼家傭來到之後,不止離開了家,連辦公處與家的界線,工作與休息的區隔都失去,先為還債努力,之後才能報孝。

「僱主家庭」同樣朝不保夕,頭上的壓力不得已要請一個外人來承擔。打工仔僱主與家傭各有互動,一進一退,有利害也有情感,也許已不算太壞?

要述說外籍家務工的處境,《美好生活》未必有答案,卻可以令我們由這點開始,加加減減,想像她們那最好到最差的狀況。

voices and noises is coming up everywhere, people are turfing up their
own prison, and talk of locality.  however, who is in and who is out
could not be defined or segregated by walling up.

hundreds of thousands of foreign domestic workers left home and
travelled across the oceans, hoping for a “beautiful life”.  what would
happen if they come into a not so well-off struggling family?  when the
indonesian domestic workers came here, they didn’t just left home, the
line between the workplace and home; work and rest, were taken away from
them.  also, they have to feed their debtors before they could feed
their families.

life is also hard for the “employing family”, both the parents have to
work to make ends meet, so someone has to be found to take care of the
family.  there are dynamics between the worker-employer and the domestic
worker, pushes and pulls, a tug of interests and emotions.  maybe, it’s
not the worst already?

talking about the situations that the domestic workers are facing,
“beautiful life” might not have an answer, but as a starting point, with
exploration and understanding, we might be able to consider their best
and worst situations.

2004年底,在台北縣三重市「飛盟國際電子公司」,老闆掏空資產逃往大陸。這個工廠有三百多個員工,其中125名是來自菲律賓的女性移工。她們三個月沒拿到薪水,也面臨關廠的命運,因此來到台灣國際勞工協會(TIWA)求助。TIWA作為一個移工運動的團體,一邊組織她們抗爭行動,也一邊紀錄移工的集體抗爭事件。拍著拍著,鏡頭裡出現雙雙對對的同志伴侶,互相依偎溫馨甜蜜。於是這也意外地成為「愛的紀錄」七對女同伴侶,包括她們的訪談、參與勞資抗爭的行動和宿舍的集體生活。

我們身處的香港,外籍勞工數以十萬計,在城市的每個角落工作和生活。但外勞在社會結構和政策中的輸入輸出,在勞資關係以外,我們是否忽略或選擇性不看見他/她們多元身份的可能性?

Lesbian Factory

In 2004, 125 Filipina women lost their jobs and were stranded without food or money when the Fast Fame electronics factory shut down and the boss ran away. The Taiwan International Workers’ Association (TIWA) stepped in to help migrant workers organize and fight for their rights, and at the same time to record the whole protest. During the protest, TIWA also witnessed seven lesbian couples, who share their love stories, working experiences, and together fought for their rights.

In Hong Kong, tens of thousands migrant workers work and live in this city. Besides those we usually focus on, the social structure, labor policy and relationship, did we ignore or selectively not to be aware of human beings’ multiple identities?

《彩虹芭樂》是《T婆工廠》後來的故事。當年身處關廠困境,外勞姊妹們,同志伴侶們共赴勞資抗爭前線,面對勞資雙方極其不對等的地位,多少汗水與淚水交纏著悲歡離合。六、七年過去,大家如今安在?

TIWA追逐她們移動的腳步,前往菲律賓呂宋島、伊洛伊洛、棉蘭老島及至中東迪拜等地,繼續紀錄她們的故事。作為同志,也作為移工,她們的處境始終在移動變化中,像候鳥般遷移。「流動」彷彿成為了永恆,在龐大的全球政經網絡中,資本向著某些國家地區流動,人在勞動市場中也跟著流動。至於身份、感情、伴侶,也在這個過程發生了各種「不期而遇」「不可預料」與「身不由己」。

跟隨TIWA的鏡頭,我們不單穿越國境,也體會性別的穿越與生命的驟變。從這裡,我們也不得不思考,在這個「流動」的網絡中,香港以一個怎樣的角色出現?如果國家和地區作為網絡的各個端口,在香港這個端口流動的,除了「環球金融」「國際智慧」,一個個活生生的人是否也作為資本地流動著?你,我,他/她,每個生命個體在網絡中又在流向何方?

Rainbow Popcorn

As a sequential documentary to the “Lesbian Factory”, “Rainbow Popcorn”  follows the steps of the migrant workers to Luzon, Ilo-Ilo and Mindanao in the Philippines, to Dubai and elsewhere. As lesbians and migrant workers, they seem always to keep moving.  “floating” and “moving” in the global capital/labor market has become a theme to the migrant workers’ life journeys. Even for their identities, “unexpected”, “unpredictable” and “involuntary” encounters also make the rhythm in their love stories.

Following the lens of TIWA, we not only transport from border to border, but also get involved in the Filipina workers’ swirl of life changes and identity shifts in the global network. If we get back to the place we live in, what is the role of Hong Kong in the global capital/labor market? If a country or a region does play a role, what makes this role function? Besides the flows of capital and knowledge, do you see the human being flow also exist? What is the direction of each human being flowing to?

談論性別,我們不是在談生理上的男性和女性,而是在談社會分配給兩種性別的氣質定型。同時,這些氣質定型(如剛強/柔弱;理性/非理性等),又早已被賦予了不同的社會價值。這些,在效果上,造成了「男性」和「女性」應該有的樣子和可以做的事情。這些定型的要求,分別會對兩性或其他性別認同的人帶來沉重的壓力。同時,這些定型的要求,結合其他社會分配機制(如族群/階級)之後,又分別對微小的個體產生不同的壓力效果。其實,對於各種性別身份,我們又是否有選擇的權利?透過性/別這條線索,你可以在這些影片中看到什麼?

talking about gender, we are not talking about biological male and female, but the temperament socially assigned to biological male and female, and finally, the social value given to these temperament. these distribution of cultural resources creates standard stereotypes and asks for conformity. those fall out of the standard/mainstream would be subjected to heavy social pressure. in fact, do we have choices in gender identity? what can you see, through this viewing thread.
